Can you stick a false tooth to a crown?
i have a baby tooth being removed and a crown being put on the tooth next to the one being removed can a false tooth be stuck to the crown with out it being joined to the tooth on the other side

I'd say no to that. You have a reason the baby tooth is being pulled but why would you saw down adjoining teeth to make room for a bridge if you can just put a crown on one tooth?
I have crowns on the front. My teeth were knocked out running around as a child. Crowns are easy to care for. And you can get them in white, they don't have to be those nasty silver things they put on a babytooth.
You don't say your age or which tooth is being crowned. So I hope I was some help!.

The reason for dentures is that you have already suffered the worst with your own natural teeth. The pain, the procedures that you have endured over the years. Many people say they are difficult to get used to but don't let that scare you. That is an exception to the rule. I myself am facing having dentures and am actually looking forward to it. Compared to not being able to chew anything, I'll take the dentures. Today, it's also a matter of cost. I refuse to put another $17,000.00 in my mouth for new crowns and partials. That could be a car. My husband has had dentures for many years and chews everything, and I do mean everything with no problems.
If this is what you are facing, I know exactly how you feel. I think half of the problem we have is knowing that there is no going back once your natural teeth are removed. You ask how long do you need to get over it. I would say that the worst part of having dentures is the emotional part. Seeing yourself in the mirror for the first time. You have to then gather up your strength and know that the tooth pain you have suffered for years is over.
Be sure that you have faith and trust in your dentist. That means everything. As far as fit and slippage, they should be a good fit so that they don't slip or they are not made correctly.

I will tell you what my dentist and I both tell our patients about dentures. They are a "prosthetic" for a missing body part. Just as you would not expect a "fake" leg to function as well as the real one, you can not expect these "fake teeth" to function as good as real teeth. They are not set into the bone like teeth are. It is a piece of plastic that lays over the top of the gums. The top ones are intended to "suction" to the palate of the mouth but they don't always stay where you want them to. That is why denture adhesive companies make billions every year. The bottom ones are usually alot harder to get used to. You should be fully prepared to deal with some or all of the following: sore spots, loose fit, dentures coming dislodged, food getting underneath, difficulty chewing normal foods such as chicken or even spagetti. Thousands of people have dentures in the world, and I am sure that many, many have made the adjustment, but you really need to keep a positive outlook on this adjustment process. I have heard so many say that they will, but they end up being the ones who blame the dentist for making a "poor fitting denture", giving up on it and not wearing them, or going to another dentist to let them try to make a new one, to end up finding that they have the same problems with the next set. Sit down and talk to your dentist, or even to a few different dentists. It is a learning process and you will have to have alot of willpower to stick it out till you learn how to use them well.

Question for dentist again......about false tooth?
I have my lower first molar tooh being removed last year, I want to get false tooth to fit the gap coz afraid the other tooth will move.
I've ask with my dentist, she advise to choose either the removable one, or the one with metal hook to be attached with the tooth next to it, or the plug in one (but means need to reshape the tooth next to it into smaller size so the fake tooth can be inserted)....
My question is, is there still some other techniques to attached the false tooth without reshaping or affecting my healthy tooth? not the removable one thou.

Your dentist probably knows what he or she is talking about but if you want another opinion you should consult another dentist.
Reply:You could get an implant. They implant a titanium screw into your bone, allow some healing and attach a crown to the screw. It is probably about the same price as doing a three unit bridge (depending on your area). If I were to lose a tooth, that is what I would do. It is the closest to having your own tooth. A bridge would be if they prep (grind down) the two adjacent teeth to the space and fit a 3 unit bridge over them with a false one in the middle. The problem with these is they are very hard to clean underneath that false tooth and most people do not keep up with it. It can lead to bone loss (gum disease). There is another type of bridge where the false tooth could attach to adjacent teeth with metal wing type appliances. But this isn't a good option for molar teeth due to the force they take while chewing. Ask you doctor for a consult with an oral surgeon that places implants. They will decide if you are a good candidate and let you know the cost.
Again, that is what I would do if I lost a tooth!

hi all! how much roughly does it cost to have a tooth capped private and how long will it take b4 u can have it done? could u have it done within 10 days from now? also, if the tooth is dead can it be capped or will it have to be removed and a false tooth inserted? how much will this procedure cost? thanks.

(Dentist only grinds to the gum line) It doesn't matter if the tooth is dead or not. In fact if it is dead you won't have to have a root canal and that can really cost. Depending on how busy the dentist is will determine how long it takes to get the cap (crown) put on but once the crown is done the temporary is popped off and the permanent is glued on. Cost varies but usually is around $900.00 at our dentist.

False Tooth for Child?
My daughter is 3 years old and she has chipped her front tooth and it destroyed the root. So she is having the tooth extracted, I was wondering is there a false tooth or something made for kids so she won't be made fun of for all the years that it takes for this permanent tooth to come in?

Her permanent tooth will be in before you know it. My cousins daughter had her front tooth removed for the same reason and she never had a problem with anyone making fun of her - I think she looked absolutely adorable with it missing. Kids at that age I think are still too young to really make fun of other kids. My son is almost 4 and I know he would never even notice anything like that :) And when she does get to be 5 or 6 alot of kids have their front teeth missing - that's when they usually start falling out. I really think you have nothing to worry about.

Reply:If I were you, I would leave that space open to let the permanent tooth come out. Else, the tooth may not be aligned correctly, causing it to be sticking out or worse lodged up in her skull.
It's really not that bad, trust me, she's only a kid and the permanent tooth will be out so quick you wished you hadn't spent money on the false tooth.

With all the playing kids do that false tooth might just fall out and the permanent one is bound to grow in about two years. I couldn't tell you where to find a false tooth because even though i chipped the very bottom of my two permanent eyeteeth they were able to be covered. I know veeners cost $750. Hope that helped at least a little.
