my guess is george washington and wooden teeth lemme see real answer. . . [edit] History
Around 700BC, Etruscans, in northern Italy, made dentures out of human or other animal teeth. These deteriorated quickly but, being easy to produce, were popular until mid 19th century[1]
The first European sets of dentures date from the 15th century and most probably existed before that time. They were carved from bone or ivory, or made up of teeth sourced from graveyards, the recent dead or living donors who exchanged their teeth for profit. These dentures were uncomfortable, attached visibly to a base supported by any remaining teeth with a thread of metal or silk. The false teeth were often made with ivory from the hippopotamus or walrus, and usually rotted after extended use.[citation needed]
London's Peter de la Roche is believed to be one of the first 'Operators for the Teeth', men who fashioned themselves as specialists in dental work. Often these men were professional goldsmiths, ivory turners or students of barber-surgeons.[2]
The first porcelain dentures were made around 1770 by Alexis Duchâteau. In 1791 the first British patent was granted to Nicholas Dubois De Chemant, previously assistant to Duchateau, for De Chemant's Specification, "a composition for the purpose of making of artificial teeth either single double or in rows or in complete sets and also springs for fastening or affixing the same in a more easy and effectual manner than any hitherto discovered which said teeth may be made of any shade or colour, which they will retain for any length of time and will consequently more perfectly resemble the natural teeth." He began selling his wares in 1792 with most of his porcelain paste supplied by Wedgwood.[citation needed] Single teeth in porcelain were made since 1808. Later dentures were made of vulcanite and then, in the 20th century, acrylic resin and other plastics. In Britain in 1968 79% of those aged 65-74 had no natural teeth, by 1998 this proportion had fallen to 36%.[citation needed]
George Washington’s False Teeth
Most people know that our first president had false teeth. I suspect that few people are aware that George Washington was plagued with toothaches most of his adult life. His diaries contain multiple references to dental pain, and this may have contributed to his well-known quick temper. George Washington lost his teeth from periodontal or gum disease. At the time of his inauguration as president, he had only one tooth left. Washington was treated by no fewer than eight prominent dentists who practiced in colonial America, but his favorite was John Greenwood.
Washington had frequent dental problems during his tenure as a general commanding the Continental army. A famous painting of Washington in 1779 shows a scar on his left cheek, believed to be the result of a badly abscessed tooth. One correspondence from Washington to a dentist in 1783 was a request for material to take an impression of his mouth. He would then send the impression back to the dentist for a denture to be made.
Dentist John Greenwood made several sets of dentures for Washington. Despite popular belief, Washington never had wooden dentures. His dentures were made from gold, elephant ivory, hippopotamus tusk, and human teeth. Modern dentures are usually made out of acrylic and porcelain in some cases.
On a humorous note, it appears that Washington complained to Greenwood about discoloring of his dentures. Greenwood suggested that Washington not soak his dentures in Port wine or drink it wearing the dentures. Washington should take the dentures out and soak them in water and clean them with a brush. This advice is not off the mark, even by today’s standards. Of course today we have stronger cleansing agents that can remove denture stains, newer denture brushes, and denture teeth that are more stain resistant. Even so, it appears that our first president’s dentist did an admirable job despite the limitations of dentistry at that time.
Who was the first person too get a false tooth and what was it made of?
Um...George Washington. It was made of wood. Hahaha, I really have no idea, but I was watching the Fairly Oddparents on Nick, and I thought that was funny...

How much is it to get a false tooth?
best way to find out is to call a dentist for exact pricing...
but I do know if you get a retainer with an attached tooth (very uncomfortable by the way) it's a few hundred dollars....if you get a bridge (where they permanently fit in the false tooth) that is quite a bit more expensive....I looked into it and my insurance would only cover 50% after the 50% they would cover it would still cost me $4000 out of pocket...
but check with a dentist in your area it may vary...

Call a dentist and ask.
Reply:A little short of £200.
Reply:It totally depends on how much you are willing to spend my friend.
1. You could get what is called a flipper. It's in the mid 200's.
2. A retainer with the tooth you are missing attached to it. It's in the lower 100's.
3. Or you could go to a orthordontis office, ask for an impression to be poured up in "stone," then take that impression to a dental lab %26amp; have them make their cheapest appliance for you. Shop around though. This will be the cheapest probably, because you are doing the steps yourself....more like a DIY, okay! Any questions just write me.
Reply:all nhs dental fees are now in bands. wether it is a crown , bridge or a tooth on a denture that you wanted it would be 189.00. this would cover any other work that you needed aswell as this is the highest band that can be charged for nhs treatment. if you wanted it done privately the fee would all depend the dentist!
Reply:It depends on your circumstances and where you live. On the NHS a false tooth is Band 3 and is usually around £194 which is the same cost for dentures etc
Reply:The price for a Denture/False teeth on the National Health Service is £194.
This will be the same price for a full denture or a smaller denture with just 1/2 teeth attatched.

How much for a front tooth to be replaced with a false tooth,i am in brisbane?
Do you still have the root ?
If yes , a good quality porcelain tooth will cost you about 300 pounds.
ah sorry , Brisbane , i read too fast , i have no idea what gets paid back by insurance in Australia , sorry. but i think porcelain crowns should cost about the same .
..
If you don't have a root .. you will need either a bridge or an implant.. bridges "destroy" the teeth at both side of your hole , so it can use both of their roots for hold.. an implant is a surgical procedure where they put a stunt in your skeleton , and fix the tooth on there.. both of these procedures cost about 3 to 4 times as much as a porcelain crown.

i just pout 10 tooth in front, look very good i ask some dentist and they wan $1300.for each tooth.i found some one Al's, with 500.d. a pics,George fokas in Clifton N.J.
Reply:I'm in Western Australia and had both my front teeth crowned. Go for crowns rather than false teeth. It is expensive but lots of dentists will let you pay it off. Mine did. HBF paid back some of it but not much. I think the total cost was a grand or so.

I need braces and a false tooth to replace a molar I had knocked out, cost?
A dentist would have to replace your molar and an orthodontist would take care of the braces. I have no idea what a molar replacement would cost. I'm an adult that had braces and the cost was $4,475.00 for a 20 month treatment. It was well worth the time and expense.

After Getting a tooth pulled can they replace it with a false tooth?
I need to get my back molar pulled and I wanted to know if its possible for my dentist to replace it later down the road or would they have to replace it immediately after the extraction?
After Getting a tooth pulled can they replace it with a false tooth?
As a dentist I can tell you that you will be able to replace your lost tooth later down the road with a dental implant, partial or with bridge work. You will need to wait until after your extraction site heals, which in some cases takes many months for the gums to completely heal and close. A veneer is a COVERING for a tooth, not a replacement, to have a veneer you would need to have a tooth present to be covered, and this is of course not possible after an extraction. Talk with your dentist before your extraction, he/she will be able to explain all the options available to you. Be sure to follow all of your dentists instructions post-extraction to ensure the proper healing if your gums and to prevent dry socket. Good luck!
Reply:i believe you can do it whenever you want. they will put in a veneer.
Reply:They can do implants further down the road. Ask your dentist about it while you're there!
Good luck!
Reply:yes
Reply:They can be replaced (called implants) but the extraction site has to heal first.
Reply:can replace it later but it would hurt alot less if you did it sooner
Reply:You would be able to get it replaced with a veneer. And it could be done at any time...and I wouldn't worry too much about it, at least it is a back molar. Is it your new molars growing in you are getting pulled? B/c those ar not supposed to be replaced.
Reply:i say yes OR they can apply braces to lesion the gap
Reply:yes they can put in a dental implant whenever u have the money
Reply:if it is a wisdom tooth it does not need to be replaced. if it is a true molar you can have an implant asap. you dont need to wait. the healing time for an implant is about 4-6 months but you will have a temp tooth in place. when that heals the temp will come off and a crown will be placed. cost....anywhere from 3-5,000. good luck
Reply:If you have enough bone mass they can replace it with a dental implant.
Reply:What? What are some of you guys talking about? You can't replace a pulled tooth with a veener! It's an implant you'd use. A veneer covers a tooth. And if she is getting the tooth pulled, how the hell could you cover it???

Fake and false?
He has a fake tooth
He has a false tooth
Is it the same meaning ? when we use fake and when for false? what is the opposite? thanks alot
Fake and false?
They are essentially the same, but they may have different connotations depending on the context. Often "false" in this and similar sentences means that the item was intentionally put there as a replacement whereas "fake" tends to mean that the item is meant to fool ... So false teeth are replacements for teeth that have been lost but fake teeth are worn as part of a costume.
Reply:technically, yes. it is the same thing. false is more formal, but it doesn't matter which one you use. the opposite i guess would be real. " he heas a real tooth"
Reply:I don't think false tooth is right thing to say because all teeth are real but some of them are fake.
The opposite would be "real tooth" and "true tooth."
Good luck!

Snake has poison in teeth, Scorpio on its tail end, but man is poisonous throughout baring few, True or false?
Certain creatures are having poisons in different places. Man is poisonous throughout in the sense, his mind is polluted and each of his senses are poisonous. If the water in the water tank is contaminated, you will get same water whether in kitchen or wash or bath or toilet. Likewise when mind is contaminated, all senses reflect the same.
Snake has poison in teeth, Scorpio on its tail end, but man is poisonous throughout baring few, True or false?
Very true.man is poisonous(barring a few). he is dangerous than the snake or the scorpio. The poison that is filled in him comes out in various ways and maligns those around him. That poison is jealousy, discrimination, hatred, malice, greed, lust, ego, anger, ill founded beliefs and opinions, selfishness, cowardice and so on. So sometimes he abuses others(verbally, physically or emotionally), sometimes he cheats, sometimes he steals from someone, sometimes he manipulates and uses others, sometimes he resorts to trickery and deciet to fulfill his motives, sometimes he harms the other person for absolutely no reason except his jealousy through cunning and conspiracy, sometimes he uses weapons, sometimes harsh words and other times cruel accusations to defame or hurt others. When he thoroughly looses his conscience he has no scruples in even killing, violating the freedom of others, raping or plundering them.

As with your other question, you have a very negative and pessimistic view of humankind. I cannot and do not believe that man is inherently bad or "poisonous" as you put it.
If your world view is correct then all of mankind would be "poisoned" - how, then, do you explain the existence of acts of benevolence : charities, aid organisations, religious generosity; etc., etc.

If creation is false and evolution developed man then - why is the human jaw to small for our teeth?
you would think: if evolution made such complex organs like the heart, skin, or liver...how could it have messed up so badly on jaw size?
If creation is false and evolution developed man then - why is the human jaw to small for our teeth?
Do you realize that more and more often people are being born without wisdom teeth?
My daughter, for example, has none. She found this out when she was 16 (4 years ago). Her dentist told her that dentists are seeing this more and more often.
Evolution doesn't happen over night. We just may find that in a few years, no one will be born with wisdom teeth. :)
By the way, our jaws used to be bigger. :)

If you are a theist, trying to promote your own religious
agenda, you are making yourself look foolish. Because
if your question is trying to show the false nature of
evolution, you fail, because the same thing can be said
of creation! As in:
If God created us, why did he make our jaws too small
for our teeth!!
This makes religion look a lot worse than evolution,
since God is supposed to be perfect, yet look
at all the imperfection he created!
If however, you are not a theist trying to promote
your religion, then your question is still
insanely stupid because right off the bat, not
everyone jaw is too small for their teeth.
Further, that supports evolution, since it shows
that organisms evolve through trial and error, and
since evolution is an adaptive, natural process,
it has natural flaws!
What would be the excuse for such flaws to be made
from a perfect being such as God??!
None!!

Why are we not perfect?
The fact is, we, just like our predecessors, are not perfect. We are a transitional phase in evolution. Just as our appendix, for example, serves no useful purpose, so does our jaw, which doesn't have room for our wisdom teeth.
We are not perfect. It just so happens that we have very capable brains. That is our trait. Great white sharks have tremendous advantages over humans, as far as survival is concerned. But we use our brains to overcome those advantages. And your local Harris Teeter is a testament to that, when they sell shark steaks in their deli.
We are not perfect. We have flaws. But we have LESS flaws than our ancestors. And that's what's important.
By way of comparison, however, let's say there's a "creator"....
Why would this "creator" make our jaws too small? Is he just trying to uhm... **** with us?
This is the kind of situation where random chance is the victor. And as a matter of fact, even as an atheist, I don't support the idea of "random chance", But I most certainly don't support the concept of a "creator" that just mistakenly made our jaws too small for our teeth....
Edit, sorry, missed the joke, I guess. But I still think my explanation was worthwhile :)

Reply:It is still a continuous evolution. Before, during prehistoric eras, human have bigger jaws to have bigger chewing power. Because then, human ate on raw animal flesh. Then they started to learn cooking their food. With it, they don't to chew as much as they chewed before on raw meat and vegetation. Eventually, they were using less jaw muscles to eat and the human body adjusted to such conditions as it slowly decreased the size of the jaw muscles and bones. Don't worry, we will then also evolve to decrease either the count or the size of our teeth so it can fit the jaw.But if you're such in a hurry, I can punch you in the jaw so you'll lose some teeth and it can now fit your jaw. A human engineer could have done a much better job. Kinda odd for an all powerful being wouldnt you say?

Beth: No, the argument can't be reversed. If we weren't still evolving, then maybe it could be - if biologists claimed Evolution creates perfect beings. How do you know that in say, 3,000 years, our wisdom teeth will no longer be a problem? Evolutionary theory isn't about poofing perfect beings out of thin air. It states that we evolve. Duh.

before i have my braces i have to have a operation to remove 2 teeth that are stuck in my gum then a gold chain put on the other 1 to pull it down to wear my baby tooth was. then i will have to have braces and after a retainer 24/7 for 8monthz then just at bnight for 4monthz is it all worth it?

Any dentist out there able to advise re "false" tooth?
I lost my molars when I had my kids and am now thinking of replacing two but my dentist says I have too little bone to do the new screw in replacement teeth and has shown me a plaque that looks like something my grandmother used to use. Has there been no advancement in technology in this field
Any dentist out there able to advise re "false" tooth?
Ask for a referral to an implant specialist. You could have bone grafts possibly using artificial bone (not bovine)This would be expensive but it's a perminant solution. There is also bridge work or precision attached work. There are hopefully lots of solutions to your problem rather than a denture.
Good Luck
Reply:The only thing I can suggest is to talk to this dentist (or get a second opinion) about bovine bone implants. I had that. I had 2 teeth replaced. The dentist implanted cow (bovine) bone into my extraction sites when he pulled the teeth. Once it healed and the bone graft had taken, I had tooth implants. I love them.
Moooooooooooo.......
(just kidding)
Reply:Ask your dentist about a cantalever bridge. With coventional bridges "false teeth are conected to either side of a missing tooth. Cantalever bridges connecet to only one side or the "lever" effect. So the two pre-molars can extend-out to support two fake molars.
Reply:You could try for a bridge, but if you've got bone loss this probably wont work as you need a sufficient amount of healthy bone surrounding the opposing teeth for the bridge to attach to.
Dentures these days are great and look very natural, there is a new denture on the market, it's called a flexi denture and is made of very soft acrylic material, it's not huge and bulky and wont fill the whole of your palate, and if you do drop them they wont break.
Reply:It can depend on why you lost your teeth in the first place and the state of your current teeth as to what the best solution is.
Replacements for lost posterior teeth do include such things as implants or cantliver bridges.
If however as it sounds the dentist has already assessed your suitability for implants I would suspect that he has also looked at the possible of bridgework.
A well made partial denture is usually the best option for missing molars. It is the cheapest and the easiest option with the highest long term success rate.
Advanced techology is more likely to break down in a complicated manner.
Your dentist is the only one here who has seen exactly what your dentition and occlusion is and therefore can give the best treatment options to you.

What would you do if you lost your two front teeth?
...and you couldn't get false teeth.
Personally, I would become one of those hobbit women who carry bags around the city, with scraggely hair and who barks at people:)
What would you do if you lost your two front teeth?
If I couldn't get real false teeth, I'd fashion some out of Chiclets. Minty fresh!

Reply:well, technically false teeth are losing more than just 2...it's losing an entire jaw worth of teeth, so i would get a bridge
if i couldn't do that, i'd just go on with my life, same as always, and be myself
Reply:I know I would never smile and never want people to see it I lost one front tooth but in the process of getting the new one I had to go with out one for a while boy did I feel like a crack head. It hurts your self esteem big time.

However, for myself, I would gladly invest in getting something very strange to put in place of my teeth. Then put them under my pillow to get money. Then probably live out in a trailer XDDD.

Oh and forget boys..........they'd have to be history because any guy who'd be ok with a girl with no front teeth is not a guy I would find attractive...............unless there was some rich hot guy who liked me for some reason and he got my teeth fixed for me...........that'd be great! Does anyone know a product that will whiten a false tooth?
I have a temporary tooth on my front tooth right now. I'm waiting to get a crown b/c I have to save up. (no insurance!) In the meantime, the tooth has discolored and is darker than my natural teeth now, so it looks bad. I've tried products that whiten dentures and it doesn't work. Any ideas?
Does anyone know a product that will whiten a false tooth?
The acrylic used for temporaries is somewhat porous and it will absorb stain. It is not likely that you will be able to whiten it with anything. They are supposed to be for short-term use, so it usually is not a problem. I do understand your situation, but unfortunately, my answer is no. You will not find a good way to whiten this temporary crown.
Reply:read some articles on teeth whitening on this site
Reply:I'm not sure what material the temporary is made out of, but it may be difficult and/or impossible to lighten the color...I know porcelain veneers/crowns are this way - takes a lot to stain them, but they can't be bleached.
Try a whitening strip with peroxide in it (such as Crest Whitening Strips or another similar brand) and see if that helps, if not...it might just be something you have to put up with until you get the crown.
Reply:have you tried crest strips or colgate's simply white?
Reply:Denture tooth paste. I wear full upper and lower. I need a new pair mine are 18 yrs old.
Dentest can bleach it.

Reply:it's called BRUXISM, my teacher said it is caused usually by psychological problems (you're stress)
just use those night guards for your teeth so it wont wear off...
for treatment just go to the dentist for filling...
if you want to wear dentures it is up to you, but if you pull out your teeth your face appearance will be changed and your bone under your gums will be resorbed... causing a lot problems, so... better to consult to the dentist and figure out the best solution for it
Good luck ^_^
Reply:Start wearing your bite guard all the time. You don't want false teeth if you don't have to. And I don't know any dentist that will just pull good teeth. As far as restoration, if your teeth are in good shape, you can do crowns, however carefully because you can chip the porcelain, implant, and in some cases we have also done composite build-up.

I know an elderly woman who keeps her teeth in water at night and I supect it's causing problems for her healt
she takes the false teeth out and puts them directly in a glass of water. in the morning she takes them right out of the glass and puts them in her mouth. I imagine sitting in room temperature water for up to 12 hours is breeding a ton of bacteria. She never sterilizes them. She is very depressed and just doesn't care about safety precautions of any kind. I would like to find an article somewhere about how harmful this could be to her, because she won't listen to me. Maybe if I print it out and give it to her she will read it and take it more seriously.
I know an elderly woman who keeps her teeth in water at night and I supect it's causing problems for her healt
This is probably one of the least harmful things she can do to herself. I would just give her some tablets to put in the water every night. She will appreciate you a lot more and probably be a lot more willing to do what you say if you come off trying to help instead of trying to put down. Also, even if you find an article, it will just tell you to put a disinfectant tablet in you water everynight.
Reply:Where would u like her to put her teeth? Buy her some cleaning tablets to drop in the glass of water so that the teeth get cleaned. U do not sterilize dentures, and the normal way to store them overnight is to soak them in water.
Reply:Hmm, she might not both reading the page either - if you bough her a tube of steradent tablets - or similar - and gave them as a gif for her to try - she MIGHT just like the mintyness to keep buying them?
Having said that, if she has done this for many years, then she has probably just developed a really strong immune system and it is fine for her

Is it possible to go from normal, slightly crooked teeth, to perfect white, straight "Hollywood Smile" teeth?
Without having false teeth or such
Is it possible to go from normal, slightly crooked teeth, to perfect white, straight "Hollywood Smile" teeth?
yes - but very expensive and can be painful
It is possible to have bleach applied to teeth but this can make them very sensitive.
You can also have teeth filed down and caps applied so that you have perfect looking teeth - I don't really fancy that!!
Or you could have a brace fitted - increasingly more popular with people in twenties and beyond who missed out on this when they were younger
Reply:Hi, I'm a dentist.
I'm not sure what you mean, exactly, by "false teeth or such". In order to transform a smile, many procedures are available. The least invasive would be veneers or lumineers, but if teeth are too maligned, orthodontics may be necessary. Also, if teeth are too badly stained and/or decayed, full coverage crowns may be necessary.
Each case must be individually treatment planned. There is really no way I can give you the answer you are looking for without evaluating the patient personally.
Sorry.
Reply:yes! Ignore the dentist he/she wants your money! Crest whitening strips are great I got some when I was last in Florida and what a difference. My teeth were a bit minging to say the least, lots of coffee and nicotine stains and my liking for red wine didn't help. Anyway I have now discovered you can buy them on ebay for about £15.00. I think they are Americas best kept secret! having my teeth white also made me stop smoking as I wanted to keep them good and although I've not quite ditched the coffee I've changed to white wine. As for straightening you will need a dentist for braces but crooked teeth and gaps can bring lots of character to a smile:-)
Reply:You need to have a dentist assess the problem to give you an answer to your question. Sometimes a brace is needed to straighten teeth but that depends on how misaligned the teeth are.
Veneers or crowns are another way of achieving a nice white smile...my daughter had veneers done and the effect was amazing (on the NHS too !)
The best thing to do is see your dentist and discuss the options with him. Good luck

Good luck

Crest Pro Health Rinse for people with no teeth?
Do you think Crest Pro Health is good/necessary for people with no teeth? My grandpa just got diagnosed with cancer and has to start chemo/radiation and he can no longer wear his false teeth. Do you think it is a good idea I buy this for him since it kills germs and all? Or is there something else I could recommend?
Crest Pro Health Rinse for people with no teeth?
when my hubby was on chemo, his mouth became sore and full of blisters so he couldnt brush his teeth or use toothbrush (just a side effect of chemo) the nurses at the hospital gave him special mouthwashes to numb his mouth and products to clean his mouth also. Speak with the nurses or doctors that are treating your grandpa. I am sure they will have something for him, or advise you on what to use.
Reply:Yes you can

I'm 15 and I'm thinkin about maybe getting fake teeth, but if they look really fake, what's the point?
I mean if everybody will still know I don't have any teeth, why bother? We don't have a lot of money and no insurance. I had what was left of my teeth pulled last year and don't have any right now. I can eat and talk just fine and I don't look bad. At least I don't think so, my friends tell me I look ok,but they're my friends. I was thinkin about maybe gettin some false teeth if I can get some for not a lot of money. Why do some look so fake?

I had my teeth out when I was almost your age because a lot of mine were bad and it was gonna cost way more than we could afford to have them fixed. I didn't get false teeth til about 9 months later and like you said they looked really fake. They didn't fit that well either, and I always ended up just taking them out and going toothless like before. I'm 25 now and I haven't wore them in over 10 years and have no plans to try it again. If you really don't mind not having teeth and you're doing ok without them, I wouldn't waste the money. Some guys may be a little turned off by a girl with no teeth, but there are a lot that aren't. When I met my husband I was toothless for over 3 years already and he has never seen me with teeth, so I wouldn't really worry about that part either.

Reply:When people talk to you, unless they know your teeth are fake, the last thing on their mind will be whether or not they really are. People won't be staring at your mouth, while holding on conversations with you. The point is, if you think that teeth will improve your life in any way, then go for it. But if you'll be eaten up by self consciousness about having fake teeth, all that worry can cause more problems than not having teeth. My uncle and my grandma both have fake teeth, I didn't know they were fake until i was an adult. After I found out they were fake, they started looking fake, because I knew they were fake. If no one else knows they're fake, then i don't really think anyone will care. Some of them look so fake, because they are poorly manufactured. (if you have a grill in your mouth, nobody will be thinking about whether or not it's fake.)

Im sisxteen,my dentists says all my teeth are cavaties,i have absesses, and my dad wont pay.what should i do?
Im scared and I don't know what to do becuase 50% of my day consists of pain, Two advil every four hours or so, The denstist said everyone of my teeth are cavaties and I have absesses, which could later lead to more serious problems if they're not taken care of. This scares me becuase the price would be over thosounds of dollars (which my parents or myself can't afford) Or false teeth by the time im 18 after they just rot themselves. So after my examination (2 months ago) she said she can't see me anymore becuase of it, and here I am scared about whats going to happen with my absesses with out antibiotics, and what i'm going to do about this pain and all the advil I take. I talked to my dad about it and all he said was, you did it to yourself and here you are. I take adderall and have saliva problems, and an iron def. which are the reasons, not the lack on my part. I'm scared and don't know what to do anymore any suggestions? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I work at a dental office, as well as being a Mother. I understand the money side, as well as the home care. If your not doing to your part by brushing and flossing twice a day, add that to your meds (my stepson is on Adderall as well), it will speed up your problems. So, don't give up your home care! EVER
In the office I work in, we would really work at educating the parents as to why this is so important. Maybe calling your dentist back, and scheduling a consult to go over the reasons would help. (I would at least, suggest this to your parents.)
There are serious side effects from not following treatment. Tooth loss is just one, you can die from this! See attached article. (this just happened in March)http://thewealthydentist.typepad.com/web...
As for the money...getting dentures is not the answer. Eating, talking, even tasting food, would never be the same. And they are expensive! $1,000+ each! Not counting the temporary denture you wear until your healed, $500+. And that is not counting the money to pull them, give or take $150-300 a tooth! So if you do some quick math... 2,000 for dentures, 1,000 for temps, and 150x32 teeth=7,800.00!
If your parents still refuse, depending on where you live, they might be a free clinic and see about getting the care from them. If all else fails..school nurse.
Most health care professionals, would say, that your parents refusal to get you help, is neglect. (Dental neglect is the willful failure by a parent or guardian to seek and obtain treatment for dental problems which cause pain, infection, or interfere with adequate function.)
I hope all works out for you, and you get the help you need. Like I said, even though I am sure it really hurts to brush...BRUSH! Its the only way you going to keep it from getting worse. Try to take as much sugar out of your diet as you can. Not only would it make matters worse, but it will add to your pain.
Reply:You seriously need to go get help, go to an emergency room, the will see you regardless of if you can pay for it. You may qualify for charity or medicaid or other types of insurance for underage patients. They will treat you with antibiotics and help you get what you need. I work in an ER where people who can't pay come in all the time, we know we won't get any money out of them, but still treat them and figure out ways to help them. There are low cost dentists as well who will agree to see you regardless of if you can pay them. You need to go do something NOW, if you already have abscesses, you can die from the infection if you are not treated. Tell your dad you will die if you don't get treated. It is not just a matter of your teeth falling out, it is a matter of life and death. Call social services on him if you have to get him to get you the help you need. He is the provider for you and regardless if you never brushed your teeth, he is ultimately responsible. But as for now, go to an ER before your infection spreads. It will be way more expensive to be in the ICU at a hospital than to go get treated now.
Reply:Hi, you're only 16, still a minor child according to most states. It is your parent's responsibility to provide care for you. Your father is exhibiting irresponsible parenting. If there is any kind of children's services in your area, I would strongly suggest you contact them. If you are too afraid, go to an adult who you trust. But, with your dad's attitude as it is right now, he's not the best person to go to right now. This is a serious problem. Good luck.
Reply:I really don't know. If I was you I wouldn't go to the hospital because it is your teeth and what are they going to do for you. start brushing and try to talk to your dad and ask him to get a loan from the bank so that you can go to the dentist OK. That is all the information that I can give to you though. Good Luck!!!!!!
Reply:hello, sorry to hear about your situation. look into a government assistance program that can help with the cost of your dental bill? these programs go by your household income so you may qualify for full or partial help. abscesses are the last result of a tooth that needs to be pulled or fixed with a root canal, patients usually go for the extraction, less expensive. talk to your mom about looking into social services and see if they have any suggestions on what you can do, programs etc.. your lack of saliva (if that is what you are referring to) can also contribute to your cavity problem there are saliva supplements you can purchase over the counter to help with that. also purchase a fluoride rinse and use it daily, that may pacify your pain. my heart goes out to you i wish i could do more. take care.

Corrective dental work for teeth neglect?
It's been a long time since I been to the dentist, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a place to that might do permanant false teeth
Corrective dental work for teeth neglect?
Depending on where you are from, look for an Affordable Dentures, or Dentures Direct near you. They are the cheapest and best I have found. I have not used them for dentures yet, but my hubby got a partial. I have used them for teeth extraction. And, lots of friends have used them for full sets.

I have a friend with stained teeth and other dental needs that are quite costly. Are dentures the best option
She has crowns and bridges that are about 15 years old and they too need to be replaced. Instead of doing this and most likely ending up with dentures in a few years she is considering getting them done sooner rather than later. How annoying are dentures? How embarassing are they? Can everyone tell that you have false teeth or have they improved over the years and she will be making the best decision to see a qualified dentist that can work her up for this solution to the multiple problems she has. She is a young looking 50 year old and her teeth have kept her from smiling all of her life.
I have a friend with stained teeth and other dental needs that are quite costly. Are dentures the best option
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years and the answer is No. Dentures are a last resort. They often do not fit properly, move without dental adhesive and are self demoralizing to a women. Please don't so this. The look fake and take time to get use to. And they limit what you can eat, and because they are made of plastic, sit on the ridge of the gum and can hurt. No one wants this. PLEASE do this. Have your friend sit down with a dentist and discuss other options. Even a partial and keeping the front teeth are better than a total denture. Bridges and crowns can be replace with beautiful teeth and most dentist will work out a payment plan. NO ONE should even consider a denture unless it is a last resort. Losing the root struture causes the face muscles to fall, the jaw bone to recede and they age very quickly. And this causes a lot of heart ache. I would rather my patients pay 1/2 and keep their teeth then lose them and look 20 years older and be miserable and unhappy. Anyone wearing dentures can not eat any of the good foods they like. Anything chewy, sticky or difficult to chew like steak is a no-no. And why would you put plastic in your mouth and feel miserable if you can replace bridges and crowns and look great. YES it does cost monies, but in the long run how much is happiness worth? A 6000. vacation 2-3 years is well worth the sacrifice to eat, smile and feel great. In fact 20k plus is worth that in my opinion. Please don't be so quick to think dentures are so great. They are not. And most people hate them. They hurt, you can not eat the foods you really like and they fall out or get loose easily. How would you like that? A friend of mine met a great guy, dated for a month and spent the night with him. Woke up with his denture under her shoulder. Guess how that helped the romance? So please listen to me and have her have a heart to heart with a dentist and make the payment arrangements. THIS is such a better option then dentures. I promise you that. M
Reply:Boy do I disagree with Marie. I feel for your friend because I had the same problem. I finally decided to get dentures 5 years ago now and it has been the happiest I have been in years, finally I can smile and also I can eat almost anything I want even corn on the cob. The only thing that I can't eat is caramels and gum. Not much of a sacrifice I'd say. They do take some time getting used to but I was eating fried chicken just 4 days after I got my dentures. The most important thing is to make sure they are fitted properly, My dentist kept adjusting mine for almost an hour before they were right and I haven't had to have them adjusted since I got them. In my opinion I think some of these dentists try to discourage you from getting dentures because once you have them done that's it, no more dental bills. Please tell your friend to go for it and finally have that smile she deserves. Marie says that she won't be able to eat many of the foods she would like but what is she able to eat now? Good luck.

Where can i buy a false tooth online?
i guess if you are in the south you can robb a jewlry store and tell them to make you a grill
otherwise the second one would be better
Reply:how about a Paul Wall grill??
Reply:No, you can't just buy a fake tooth online. any type of dental prosthesis needs to be custom made for your mouth, they are not Off-The-Shelf! An impression needs to be taken of your mouth and th tooth needs to be molded for your mouth specifically. Go see your dentist and see what different treatment options are available to you at cost that are reasonable to you!

and what can i do to restore my teeth caps,or false teeth or other?
What could be causing my teeth getting short i wear a nite guard but they are still getting short almost togum
You obviously are still grinding thru the night guard. It is called severe bruxism and you need to get back to your doctor and get him to place fillings and build all of your teeth back up again. It is unadvisable to have veneers or crowns down, because you will just chip them when you grind. I reccomend trying a day guard as well as the night guard. And perhaps your dentists lab can make it out of tougher material. Hope this helps!!!
Reply:Very common, your lower incisors(front teeth) are smaller than your upper teeth so obviously you will see the effects moreso. Are you wearing an upper or a lower nightguard? I am assuming an upper and probably why you are grinfing the lowers more. Report It
Reply:You are grinding your teeth against the plastic of the nightguard. I hope this helps!!! Just talk to your dentist, he will know what to do! Report It
Reply:By the way, Insurance will almost always cover the fillings on your front teeth to fix the damage done by bruxism. It is not considered cosmetic, it is essential. Otherwise you will start to expose dentin and you will feel extreme sensitivity. Hope this helps!!! Report It

I am a retire Registered Dental Hygienist.
Why do you "want" to get all your teeth removed. Did someone tell you that you have advanced Periodontal Disease/extensive decay and they "Need" to be removed? Or is it that you just don't like they way they look? If they are out of place, get Orthodontics. If they are discolored, chipped etc. have them bleached and ask about "verners" or crown. Implants are more expensive than these other methods. But DON"T have them removed.
I don't know the price in every state, but just suppose that EACH Implant tooth costs about $2500 and times that by 28 (I'm not including "wisdom" teeth) that would be around $70,000. Maybe someone else can give you a better idea of the costs for 28 implants.
First off, no Dentist is going to remove all your teeth unless you have been diagnosed with extremely advanced dental disease. It would be unethical and not in the patients interest. If you have been diagnosed with advanced disease, I think it would be highly unlikely unless you have extraordinary insurance to get a complete set of Implants paid for by insurance. They are very expensive.
Implants are the option if you don't want dentures ( if you remove all of them you would get full upper and lower dentures)or bridges (have to have some teeth remaining). Fir inplants you have to have an evaluation of the bone first to see if you have enough to place the implant in and that there are no signs of Osteoprosis. This is done with x-rays. Since you mentioned that you are on a fixed income, I am assuming that you are elderly/retired. Elderly patients can have lost too much bone tissue for several reasons and therefore can't even consider implants as an option. You would have to see if you are a candidate or not. If you have been diagnosised with advanced periodontial disease, you probably don't have enough bone tissue left anyway....I'm only guessing here though. Periodontal disease destroys the bone tissue that holds your teeth in place. The more advanced the more the bone is destroyed. If you do have enough bone tissue, Implants require surgery. The surgery is done by an Oral Surgeon. First, an incision is made in the soft (gums) tissure and then the bone is drilled into to make a hole for the bottom part of the implant to be placed into. The incision is closed up and you are given time for the bone to heal around the implant so that it is secure. After it has healed, another incision is made and the top of the implant is put in. The last part is going to back to your dentist and he attaches the "artifical tooth" onto the top part of the implant that is sticking out of the soft tissue. After all this, there is always a possibility that the implants don't "take". The bone tissue does not hold up to the pressures of force and the implant is lost. If you have osteoporosis, your bone tissue is brittle can't hold up to the pressures. Another reason for failure is infection. If you don't care for your implants and your gum tissue properly you can also loose your implants. It isn't as if you get replacements for your natural teeth that you had to brush and floss and now you don't have to any more!!!! (I'm am only giving you bits and pieces of informations here, there are other causes of failure and everyone...each patients is different) Implants are VERY expensive.
I also thought of another option. If you don't HAVE to have ALL your teeth out (you would have to talk to the dentist about how many must remain and where they should be loacted) you might have the option of getting fixed bridges on to these "support" teeth. Those support teeth would have to be healthy and able to suppor the bridges. You would have to ask about this though. As I said before, every patient is different.
I think you're only option for getting lower cost (still not cheap), might be to check out a Dental School in you area. The Dental students have to learn how to do this proceedure and for allowing them to learn on you they charge lower fees.
Please ask "your" dentist about what are the best for YOU and what the latest options are and to give you more complete information than I have given you here.
Best of luck.

Terrible pain in my teeth after running! why?
i have started running in the mornings and i get a terrible pain in my teeth, when ever i'm out of breath this starts to happen, does anybody know why. i'm 24, dont want false teeth just yet.
Terrible pain in my teeth after running! why?
Stop running on your face.
2. sinus infection
Reply:Could it be your teeth are sensetive to the cold air you are breathing in as you run?
Reply:Nasal infection?
Reply:Maybe your teeth are sensitive and the wind agitates them and makes them hurt. Try using toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth.
Reply:Sounds like neuralgia, probably caused by the cold. Nothing to do with the actual teeth but the facial nerves.
Reply:HERE IS ONE OPINION
"I thought I was the only runner with a sore mouth. For a day or two after an ultra, the roof of my mouth hurts whenever I eat. "
This used to be a problem for me after most very long runs or ultras. It is primarily caused by inhaling/exhaling a large volume of air over the hours, resulting in dehydration of the mouth. My dentist also noted that the same thing can happen to the teeth, making them more sensitive to hot and cold for 24 hours or so. I really noticed sensitive teeth after running the Steamboat Marathon when the air temperature was in the 70s while the dew point was only 16F - very dry air.
What has worked for me to eliminate the sore mouth is to carry fluids in a bottle and drink a small amount every 8-10 minutes. I think it also helps that the sports drink I use has a small amount of fat in it (MCT) and that puts a thin layer of fat on the tissues, slowing evaporation from them. I've had no instances of "sore mouth" since using that type of drink.
Reply:I worked as a dental nurse for 5 yrs and have came across this problem myself. Have you had a cold recently? Usually this problem occurs when your sinuses are blocked and when you walk or run your teeth feel as if they are going to fall out! This is because of the pressure, go to your dentist to get them checked to be on the safe side incase there are any underlying problems but usually blocked sinus' are to blame.
Reply:you have sensitive teeth. try breathing in through nose and out through your mouth.
Reply:Your teeth could be a little sensitive . You are probably getting the cold wind in your face and it causing them to ache try protect your face with either a scarf or hat .
Reply:The next time you run, pay attention to what you are doing with your jaws. Try to relax your facial muscles. If you are clenching your back teeth too much as you run, you will get a pain in your back teeth.
Reply:Look where your going.
Reply:it might be where its cold at the moment darling i reckon it will stop wants it warms up best the luck with your running darling
Reply:try breathing through your nose, it's probably because have sensitive teeth and that breathing in cold air aggravates it more....try putting a scarf round your face when out running, help minimise the exposure to cold air

Bodie modification question, about gettin fang like teeth?
i want vampire like teeth, but im curious if there is a presice name for this type of body modification, and also about how much does it cost? i would love to talk to someone who actually has it done. ive heard that you can get caps, but the problem is, the space where i want the fangs to be put in, i have gaps cuz of babie teeth that were removed, i was wondering if they would be able to put in false teeth, as in, surgically put them in, or even make denture like fangs, so they are removable. but seriously, anyone hav any links for this??
Bodie modification question, about gettin fang like teeth?
AS stated above, talk to your dentist. They have implant that can be set into your gums, and the tooth screwed in. If your dentist cannot perform this he will be able to reccomend a dentist who can.
Reply:I'm luck enough to have straight teeth and I just bought Scarecrow fangs that you mold to cap onto your own teeth. I have a lot of friends who have fangs and other body modification, but your's is truly a special case.
I would suggest talking to your destist or an oral surgeon. Honestly, just ask. It doesn't hurt. I know at least one of my friends got his through his dentist. They would be best suited to tell you if that kind of service is available or would even work.
And, if you have a great tattoo/piercing shop around you may have luck asking there, too.
They would know the route for body modification...
But, check this link out, too. I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but it may point you in the right direction...

We all have 32 teeth, but 4 of which are your wisdom teeth and you don't need those....
So 32 minus 4 equals 28!

Reply:All intact except one which was dead (Because of a broken jaw from push bike riding when i was a kid)and it had to be taken out 2 years ago but no fillings. You must brush your teeth every day and you wont have to go to the dentist, diet well? you should watch food acid rich foods like Fruit Juice and Coca Cola,if you drink them ,then drink water after-wards, as they corrode your teeth and if you have cavities, then lay off the sugar,as these will cause plaque and rot your teeth from inside.

My Son's Orange Teeth...?
My 10 year old has problems with his teeth turning orange from plaque. He brushes 3 times a day, flosses twice a day, and uses mouth wash last thing at night. He doesn't eat sweets and practically zero pop. He actually prefers fruits and vegetables over anything. He's had 6 cavities in his short life already. The dentist says that some people just have more problems concerning plaque and cavities than others. There's got to be something else we can do or someone else we can see. If this contiuies he'll have to have false teeth by 20 years old. Someone please help me help my son.
My Son's Orange Teeth...?
Sounds very strange. Certain medications do change tooth color. Like the others mentioned, many people have weak teeth that are easily susceptible to caries. Is he using a power/electric toothbrush? That may help remove more plaque. Also, you should probably take him in for dental cleanings more often, every 4 months or so.
Reply:Does he see a dentist? Are his teeth bad or just stained?
If is only stain he might be drinking something that gives the teeth that color. The dentist can tell you what to do but there are products now like Crest White Strips to help with that but please do see a dentist.

Reply:Are you watching your son while he does all this or do you have to make him do it? Because he might be lying to you. If his teeth are orange, then he isn't brushing and flossing as much as you say. Or if he is then he probably isn't doing it properly. If it's just that he's more prone to it, then i guess he'll have to start doing it a lot more often.
Reply:Have them caped or have him use different toothpaste. I hate to say this but dentures aren't as bad as they sound. Just think if he gets them then he won't ever need a trip to the dentist ever again. Plus his teeth will never hurt too.
Reply:He has a high carries risk, meaning it's genetic. Also, because he brushes, doesn't mean he removes all the plaque. Plaque that doesn't get removed turns to calculus, which is hard and can only be removed via explorer at the dentist. Just make sure he goes biannually for his prophy.
Reply:I had my teeth capped when I was ten and never had cavaties. I would seek a second opinoin from a dentist. Also, how much does he prefer fruit? What fruit is it that he eats the most? Some fruits are so high in sugar and they are natural so they are easily eaten by plaque. Hope that makes sense. Do some research on your sons favorite foods. Oh and does he drink alot of water? Does he drink enough milk (good calcium means stronger bones, ie. teeth) and other calcium high foods? Thats all I have got and I hope it helped.
Reply:Did the dentist put sealants on his teeth? A lot of antibiotics can turn teeth yellow. I know it is not recommended for kids to have their teeth whiten - my daughter asked about this as she has discolored teeth.
Reply:Take your son to a trusted dentist who my advice best for your child's teeth problem. May be there are some complications in him that affect his teeth. Or perhaps your son keeps on eating sweets when you're not on the look. Regarding my kids problem on teeth especially discoloration, I only use and trust OraMD. It really works in maintaining our oral health.
