Im sisxteen,my dentists says all my teeth are cavaties,i have absesses, and my dad wont pay.what should i do?

Im scared and I don't know what to do becuase 50% of my day consists of pain, Two advil every four hours or so, The denstist said everyone of my teeth are cavaties and I have absesses, which could later lead to more serious problems if they're not taken care of. This scares me becuase the price would be over thosounds of dollars (which my parents or myself can't afford) Or false teeth by the time im 18 after they just rot themselves. So after my examination (2 months ago) she said she can't see me anymore becuase of it, and here I am scared about whats going to happen with my absesses with out antibiotics, and what i'm going to do about this pain and all the advil I take. I talked to my dad about it and all he said was, you did it to yourself and here you are. I take adderall and have saliva problems, and an iron def. which are the reasons, not the lack on my part. I'm scared and don't know what to do anymore any suggestions? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I work at a dental office, as well as being a Mother. I understand the money side, as well as the home care. If your not doing to your part by brushing and flossing twice a day, add that to your meds (my stepson is on Adderall as well), it will speed up your problems. So, don't give up your home care! EVER

In the office I work in, we would really work at educating the parents as to why this is so important. Maybe calling your dentist back, and scheduling a consult to go over the reasons would help. (I would at least, suggest this to your parents.)

There are serious side effects from not following treatment. Tooth loss is just one, you can die from this! See attached article. (this just happened in March)http://thewealthydentist.typepad.com/web...

As for the money...getting dentures is not the answer. Eating, talking, even tasting food, would never be the same. And they are expensive! $1,000+ each! Not counting the temporary denture you wear until your healed, $500+. And that is not counting the money to pull them, give or take $150-300 a tooth! So if you do some quick math... 2,000 for dentures, 1,000 for temps, and 150x32 teeth=7,800.00!

If your parents still refuse, depending on where you live, they might be a free clinic and see about getting the care from them. If all else fails..school nurse.

Most health care professionals, would say, that your parents refusal to get you help, is neglect. (Dental neglect is the willful failure by a parent or guardian to seek and obtain treatment for dental problems which cause pain, infection, or interfere with adequate function.)

I hope all works out for you, and you get the help you need. Like I said, even though I am sure it really hurts to brush...BRUSH! Its the only way you going to keep it from getting worse. Try to take as much sugar out of your diet as you can. Not only would it make matters worse, but it will add to your pain.
Reply:You seriously need to go get help, go to an emergency room, the will see you regardless of if you can pay for it. You may qualify for charity or medicaid or other types of insurance for underage patients. They will treat you with antibiotics and help you get what you need. I work in an ER where people who can't pay come in all the time, we know we won't get any money out of them, but still treat them and figure out ways to help them. There are low cost dentists as well who will agree to see you regardless of if you can pay them. You need to go do something NOW, if you already have abscesses, you can die from the infection if you are not treated. Tell your dad you will die if you don't get treated. It is not just a matter of your teeth falling out, it is a matter of life and death. Call social services on him if you have to get him to get you the help you need. He is the provider for you and regardless if you never brushed your teeth, he is ultimately responsible. But as for now, go to an ER before your infection spreads. It will be way more expensive to be in the ICU at a hospital than to go get treated now.
Reply:Hi, you're only 16, still a minor child according to most states. It is your parent's responsibility to provide care for you. Your father is exhibiting irresponsible parenting. If there is any kind of children's services in your area, I would strongly suggest you contact them. If you are too afraid, go to an adult who you trust. But, with your dad's attitude as it is right now, he's not the best person to go to right now. This is a serious problem. Good luck.
Reply:I really don't know. If I was you I wouldn't go to the hospital because it is your teeth and what are they going to do for you. start brushing and try to talk to your dad and ask him to get a loan from the bank so that you can go to the dentist OK. That is all the information that I can give to you though. Good Luck!!!!!!
Reply:hello, sorry to hear about your situation. look into a government assistance program that can help with the cost of your dental bill? these programs go by your household income so you may qualify for full or partial help. abscesses are the last result of a tooth that needs to be pulled or fixed with a root canal, patients usually go for the extraction, less expensive. talk to your mom about looking into social services and see if they have any suggestions on what you can do, programs etc.. your lack of saliva (if that is what you are referring to) can also contribute to your cavity problem there are saliva supplements you can purchase over the counter to help with that. also purchase a fluoride rinse and use it daily, that may pacify your pain. my heart goes out to you i wish i could do more. take care.
