Tooth cap or false tooth?
If the tooth is dead the dentist will take an impression of that tooth, grind down the tooth and put a temporary on the base of the original tooth. (Dentist only grinds to the gum line) It doesn't matter if the tooth is dead or not. In fact if it is dead you won't have to have a root canal and that can really cost. Depending on how busy the dentist is will determine how long it takes to get the cap (crown) put on but once the crown is done the temporary is popped off and the permanent is glued on. Cost varies but usually is around $900.00 at our dentist.
Reply:A false tooth can be very expensive. They have to screw an anchor into your jaw so they can attach the false tooth. This procedure is about $1800 to $2000 for one tooth. Go with the cap unless you can afford the false tooth. A false tooth is much better but it can be a painful procedure and quite expensive.
Reply:have both, implant takes 3 months-3 thou for a superior one. there are differencew in quality like everyhting else. needing one? depends-my tooth was mostly filling, you need a post to stick a cap on. Cap-700 hundred. you want a good quality crown. have to have a dentist you trust. still probably more than 10 days.
Reply:A crown(cap) is good but that would depend on which tooth it is in terms of longevity. If the tooth is dead you will need to have a root canal done. IF you meant that is dead and that this has been dead then yes it is advisable to get the crown done. This would be your best plan of action. If it hasn't and your dentist advises you that the prognosis for the tooth is not so great, you might have to have it exctracted. In that case the options for replacing a missing tooth with a fake one.

- RPD(plate) Most economical

- FPD(bridge) most expensive biologically. Natural tooth structure has to be removed to give support for the fake tooth.

-Implant- Most expensive initially but the best longevity.

As for the time that deoends on the lab the dentist uses as well as the dentist's appointment book.

Good Luck
